1) The Ferrara Castle: ancient fortress of the 300’s which later became the residence of the Duke of d'Este in the 500’s. It has been recently renovated with its incredible halls.

2) The Cathedral: top Medieval monument of the city, inaugurated in 1135. The beautiful marble façade with three spires with loggia has recently been renovated and brought back to its ancient splendor. Just as the marble bell tower (1441-1596) attributed to Alberti, and the apse done by Rossetti (end 400’s). The Cathedral’s Museum collects works of art once exhibited in the church.

3) Boulevard Corso Ercole I d’Este: stroll down this street tocapture thevision of the Renaissance city wanted by Ercole I and designed by Biagio Rossetti (the so-called Addizione erculea-extension of the city walls). The wide and straight street rich in beautiful buildings and gardens leads to the “Quadrivio”, name given to the crossroads with street Corso Porta Mare-Corso Biagio Rossetti.

5) Civic Ancient Art Museum: located in the South-East sector of the city between Corso Giovecca and Via Scandiana, it represents the most important Museum district for most of the visitors. It includes the Schifanoia Palace (with beautiful frescos, recently renovated), the Civic Epigraphic Museum, the Bonaccossi and Marfisa d’Este Palaces.

6) Ancient walls: it’s a real pleasure to walk or ride along the planned routes. In the summer, the night tour and in spring, the sunrise or sunset, and the foggy winter tours are very nice.

7) The Theater: if you like classical music, the opera, or prose, don’t miss the yearly program or the events organized by Ferrara Musica. The signature mark is the concert season directed by conductor Claudio Abbado in cooperation with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Tickets can be booked online through the site.
